Kate Sessions Day

A Celebration of Balboa Park’s Horticultural Wonders

November 9, 2019

10am–1pm

Jacaranda Place (near the Morley Field Sports Complex)

Celebrate the birthday of the “Mother of Balboa Park” at the inaugural Kate Sessions Day event on Balboa Park’s east mesa. Honored as one of the park’s founders, Kate Sessions (born Nov. 8, 1857) is the horticulturalist and landscape architect credited for planting hundreds of trees and flowering plants throughout the park during the late 19th and early 20th century.

The Kate Sessions Day celebration will include:

  • Horticultural-themed activities for kids
  • Tree walks led by expert arborists
  • Community tree plantings
  • Live music
  • Food trucks
  • And more!

Kate Sessions Day is presented by the Balboa Park Conservancy in partnership with the City of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation and is generously sponsored by SDG&E and California ReLeaf.
