Free Live Entertainment

Kick off your summer weekends in style every Friday evening at Balboa Park’s hottest after-hours event. Visitors of all ages can enjoy live entertainment while eating gourmet dishes from a rotating selection of more than a dozen food trucks parked on the Plaza de Panama and El Prado walkway. Now in its third year, Food Truck Fridays is a program of the Balboa Park Conservancy in partnership with the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department.

Since Food Truck Fridays first launched in 2016, Balboa Park has become an increasingly popular date-night destination, giving thousands of park visitors and families a unique opportunity to sample a diverse, rotating selection of gourmet food trucks, serving everything from appetizers and main courses to desserts and specialty beverages, all in one convenient location. Several Balboa Park museums will stay open late, with some offering special programs and admission discounts. See www.balboapark.org for details.

Throughout the summer, Food Truck Fridays presents different musical performers or DJs each night in the Plaza de Panama. The Plaza’s “living room” setup will be rolled out, including a large artificial lawn for children to play on and giant family game sets. Various Balboa Park cultural institutions will also have booths set up with hands-on activities and crafts for kids. The San Diego Museum of Art will continue to offer $5 admission prices to all visitors after 5:00 p.m. on Friday nights.

Visitors can bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit in the lawn area in front of the Botanical Building, or enjoy craft beers, wine, and cocktails inside the nearby Panama 66 and Prado restaurants.

Parking and Transportation

Visitors arriving by car should park in the Inspiration Point parking lot at the corner of Park Blvd. and President’s Way and ride the free tram into the park, which will run until 8:00pm on Friday evenings this summer. Or, avoid traffic and parking hassles altogether by taking MTS, which has buses running along Park Blvd. and Sixth Ave. To plan your trip, visit https://sdmts.com/

Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free Options

Many of our food truck vendors offer vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Some veggie and gluten-free items are listed on the respective truck’s menu, and some regular items can be altered on request.
